CATCH Fish & Chips Giffnock - Gluten Free Menu

Catch Giffnock Shop Front

When you are informed that you have an issue with gluten, all of a sudden past experiences with certain foods tend to suddenly make sense. Now, before life without the grains, I had to abstain from eating the popular British favourite, fish and chips. Mainly because of the ‘chippy hangover' it gave me. Back when I was blissfully unaware and consuming gluten, I just assumed that chippies didn’t agree with me due to the high fat and oil content, however the belching, sickness and bloating were actually all down to one thing, gluten. You can imagine my delight whilst scouring Google looking for gluten free food joints when I stumbled across CATCH.

Catch Giffnock

CATCH describe themselves on their website as a "posh, modern day neighborhood fish & chip shop and restaurant" and I can vouch for this statement 100%. Gone are the days going into a greasy chip shop, opening up your poke to discover poor quality fish and soggy chips. You walk in the door to CATCH and instantly you know this isn't your regular chippy joint. Clean, bright and airy décor, friendly staff and a lovely waft of food to please your nostrils and get your taste buds tingling. I must point out that CATCH have two locations: Giffnock and Netherlee. I have only ever visited the Giffnock branch, and going by the menus posted on their website, it seems that only the Giffnock branch offer a gluten free menu. You are able to both sit in and takeaway, offering you either a posh sit in chippy experience or giving you the means for a delicious night in.

Light and crispy batter on the freshest fish is what CATCH are all about. In addition to the perfect haddock and twice cooked chips, expect to find the likes of lobster, scallops, burgers and seabass on the menu. Where possible, CATCH source from Scottish coastal fisheries that they have advised are best practice and the most sustainable.

Catch Giffnock Special

Personally speaking, I order the same thing every time I go. Haddock and chips with a side of mushy peas. I have on occasion shared a portion of onion rings with my boyfriend, both of us immensely satisfied by them however due to the massive portion sizes you are just asking for a food coma. Seriously. The portion sizes are HUGE. Even my boyfriend, who could eat for Scotland if tasked, rarely finishes his 'normal' Haddock and chips. Also, I can confirm that they have a well-stocked bar with something guaranteed to tickle your nipple. The bar features craft beers from Scotland and beyond, as well as bubbly from Italy and France and a carefully selected choice of wines.

My favourite time to go is a Sunday, nip quickly into Wild Flours (review available here)  down the road then pick up my order to enjoy in front of the TV sprawled over the couch - ideal or what? If you do decide to give them a go, please let minnow! Now the oppor-tuna-ty us there!
